1934 Lagonda Rapier

Speed, endurance and sturdiness of construction are typical qualities inherent in all Lagonda’s.

1934 Lagonda Rapier

This stunning Lagonda Rapier was produced by the British Lagonda company in 1934.
At the heart of the car is a 1104cc twin overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine. The design of this was done by a consultant Thomas Ashcroft with the brief of producing “Britain’s finest 1100cc engine”.
The chassis was designed by Charles King and consisted of steel sections bolted together. The engine was connected to a four-speed preselector gearbox with right-hand change lever. This particular example has had the original preselect box replaced with a much more usable Standard/Triumph four speed box, making it a joy to drive.
The factory in 1934 supplied the running chassis for £270 to customers who could then select their own coachwork. Most cars had bodies by E. D. Abbott Ltd of Farnham, Surrey which this example also did. A complete car with Abbott four-seat tourer body sold for £368 back in 1934.
This beautiful example has undergone a major restoration spanning a number of years and has had many sympathetic modifications made, making it an absolute pleasure to drive. Finished to highest standard the interior comprises of 6 leather hides all trimmed by a local craftsman to a very high standard.
After decades of family ownership it is now time for a new custodian.
