1951 Riley RMD

1951 Riley Drophead Coupe

This is a beautiful example and a very special Riley Drophead Coupe. Having been in the same family ownership since 1962, it is a pleasure and honour to present this vehicle to the market.

Purchased new in the UK by Air Commodore T J de Lange C.B.E , this Drophead became a well known vehicle on the Wigram RNZAF base when then Group Captain Theodore de Lange brought the car out to New Zealand with him. The car was subject to many entertaining incidents on the Air Base including one involving a caravan being towed around the base behind the Riley at excessive speed. The Riley was a much loved vehicle by both the owner and the mechanic that was in charge of maintaining her. In 1962 this mechanic had the opportunity of purchasing the vehicle, an opportunity that he jumped at. The car has been in the same family ever since and is a testament to the love of maintaining such a vehicle. The car has undergone extensive refurbishment during these years including panel and paint work, woodwork, new hood assembly, electrics and mechanical work.

This is not only a truly stunning vehicle but a car that oozes history and special stories. Its provenance is well documented by literature and photos in a file that accompanies the vehicle. This is a vehicle that can truly be used and enjoyed with confidence this summer, with all mechanicals being well maintained. This vehicle is reading a genuine 69806 Miles.
