1972 Volkswagen Beetle 1200
Due to an unfortunate change in our client’s circumstances we are privileged to offer this special 1972 Volkswagen Beetle to the market again.
With the need for a people’s car in the early 20th century the Beetle’s concept and functional objectives were formulated by the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, who wanted a cheap, simple car to be mass-produced for his country’s new road network. Members of the National Socialist party, with an additional dues surcharge, were promised the first production, but civil war in Spain shifted most production resources to military vehicles instead to support Francisco Franco. Lead engineer Ferdinand Porsche and his team took until 1938 to finalise the design. The result was the first Volkswagen and one of the first rear-engine cars since the Brass Era. With 21,529,464 produced, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single platform ever made. Although designed in the 1930s, due to World War II, civilian Beetles only began to be produced in significant numbers by the end of the 1940’s.
This example of the 1200 is New Zealand new and has had a fairly pampered life. The vehicle is now showing some age and lovely patina, which is expected after 48 years of motoring. Apart from some minor paint repairs, this is otherwise a very original example of which it is very hard to find these days.
Use as is over the summer or treat it as a rolling restoration, “Olive “ is looking for a new home. Will it be with you ? This is a fantastic opportunity to own an original, iconic air cooled vehicle at what is a very realistic asking price. Invest in your future!
